Captain Nels Palmer, long serving chief of Ludington’s Life-Saving Station, greets visitors virtually and shares how he helped create Ludington’s new Coast Guard Station in 1934 that now serves as the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum. “Meet” some of the Coast Guard’s most legendary characters and tour the historic station where for over six decades the brave Coast Guardsmen and more recently women, operated a fleet of rescue vessels to protect lives and property.
The museum is operated by the Mason County Historical Society, which also operates the nearby Historic White Pine Village.
